Based on a variety of sources, one being the Grand Jury report itself, I feel that Jerry Sandusky will be found guilty of child molestation related charges ranging possibly from sodomy, aggravated sexual assault, and indecent assault.
Until that time, however, Jerry Sandusky is presumed to be innocent – I know that will be seen as a stretch by some people, but the law is the law and it is in place to protect all of us – even those who are perceived to be guilty by the general population.
This is still a free country and there is a presumption of innocence until a jury or a judge arrives at a verdict that proves otherwise.
What I do find ridiculous is that almost everyone is ready to have Jerry burned at the stake before a trial even begins.
Why is there no anger being directed at ANY of the following individuals:
1. Mike McQueary – if this graduate student, at the time, stopped Sandusky in his tracks and then immediately took the boy to a medical facility or a police station – this who story would have been nipped in the bud – Sandusky would have been immediately arrested and the various administrators would not have had the opportunity to cover-up the alleged crime. Also, why aren’t people mad at Scott McQueary’s father, John, who supposedly advised his son to leave the shower/locker facility and come home instead of taking decisive action? Imagine – a grown man – a father himself – not insisting that immediate action be taken to protect a young innocent boy from being assaulted.
2. Gary Schultz and Tim Curley – these two bobble heads were those in authority above Joe Paterno. JoePa advised one or the other or both and they were the one’s in the chain of command that could have taken immediate action and like the situation with McQueary, they could have nipped all of this in the bud. I am not sure, but I believe either or both of these individuals took the situation to PSU President Rodney Erickson.
3. PSU President Rodney Erickson (at the time of the shower incident). Other than the Board of Trustees, where Erickson is a member, Erickson was the highest authority at Penn State. If he was approached by Curley and/or Schultz and he did nothing, people ought to be directing some anger at him as well.
4. The Board of Trustees. My opinion is that if Curley and/or Schultz knew detail of the shower incident and they took it to Erickson – you can bet your paycheck that the power members of the Board of Trustees knew as well – and they sat on their tails as well. Did they take action? You bet they did – but surely not enough – they took the low road by terminating JoePa and Erickson – Curley and Schultz were placed on administrative leave – with or without pay I do not know.
So, we have tons of people who are angry at Sandusky and I believe their anger is justified – but why no anger toward individuals on my list? Surely, Sandusky cannot also be blamed for the cover-up that was initiated by senior executives at Penn State.
Okay, lets shift to Sandusky and his house – specifically his deck.
Unless I am mistaken – we still live in the United States, a country that still presumes innocence prior to being found either Guilty or Not Guilty.
Sandusky has not been determined a flight risk so he is considered under house arrest – not property arrest but house arrest. The question is, as I see it, is the deck considered part of the house or part of the property?
I am not bothered that an elementary school is adjacent to his house. I do not believe that Sandusky is going to expose himself to the kids from his deck – nor is he going to take pictures or videos of kids playing 100 – 150 foot away. Also, he has no control regarding what kids do while in their classrooms. If kids notice him through the school windows and erupt as kids sometimes will do, because “that very bad man” is sitting on his deck – their actions are as a result of what their parents talk about in their homes. Sandusky is not doing anything to attract their attention.
Teachers need to control all children while they are in their classrooms – that is part of their job and if they cannot control their students, let those teachers go and hire teachers that can do the job.
I am not a fan of Sandusky and I never will be – even if he is found “not guilty” of all charges – but I can appreciate that he is a citizen of the United States and he is entitled to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence until a trial begins.
I read where someone said today that he wishes someone would kill Sandusky and to that statement I respond that this is a sad testimony to the direction our country is going.
We don’t need death squads any more than we need torture rooms. Let the cards fall where they fall.
We should all have enough trust in the judicial system that if Jerry Sandusky is found guilty of one or more of the charges brought against him, he will hopefully be sent away for a long, long time.
In addition to Jerry Sandusky living right next to Lemont Elementary School, there are 8 registered sex offenders living within 5 miles of Lemont Elementary. Their offenses range from sodomy, aggravated sexual assault, forcible sodomy, Indecent assault, and aggravated indecent assault.
Keep in mind that these registered sex offenders have already been convicted of the above charges and in the eyes of the law they are guilty, whereas Jerry Sandusky still needs to be found guilty of charges that will be presented against him at trial.
