Mormon scripture talks about telling the truth and it goes into great detail about untruths, gestures, silence, telling part of the truth or leading people in a way to believe something that is not true… (wow, does all of that fit Mitt to a “T” or what?
Chapter 31: Honesty
Gospel Principles, (2011), 179–83
I will not print the entire five pages, but I want to include a few critical passages and I have emphasized several passages that apply to Mitt’s “half-truths, misstatements, and outright lies:
God is honest and just in all things (see Alma 7:20). We too must be honest in all things to become like Him. The brother of Jared testified, “Yea, Lord, I know that thou … art a God of truth, and canst not lie” (Ether 3:12). In contrast, the devil is a liar. In fact, he is the father of lies (see 2 Nephi 9:9). “Those who choose to cheat and lie and deceive and misrepresent become his slaves” (Mark E. Petersen, in Conference Report, Oct. 1971, 65; or Ensign, Dec. 1971, 73).
Lying is intentionally deceiving others. Bearing false witness is one form of lying. The Lord gave this commandment to the children of Israel: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20:16). Jesus also taught this when He was on earth (see Matthew 19:18). There are many other forms of lying. When we speak untruths, we are guilty of lying. We can also intentionally deceive others by a gesture or a look, by silence, or by telling only part of the truth. Whenever we lead people in any way to believe something that is not true, we are not being honest.
The Lord is not pleased with such dishonesty, and we will have to account for our lies. Satan would have us believe it is all right to lie. He says, “Yea, lie a little; … there is no harm in this” (2 Nephi 28:8). Satan encourages us to justify our lies to ourselves. Honest people will recognize Satan’s temptations and will speak the whole truth, even if it seems to be to their disadvantage.
We Can Be Completely Honest
What does it mean to be completely honest?
When we are completely honest, we cannot be corrupted. We are true to every trust, duty, agreement, or covenant, even if it costs us money, friends, or our lives. Then we can face the Lord, ourselves, and others without shame. President Joseph F. Smith counseled, “Let every man’s life be so that his character will bear the closest inspection, and that it may be seen as an open book, so that he will have nothing to shrink from or be ashamed of” (Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed. , 252).
Let us leave scripture and return to my own comments for a few seconds.
Mitt, you have taken lying to a completely new level – you tell lie after lie and do it so convincingly. I am sure most professionals who are skilled with being able to tell if a person is lying would have problems evaluating your honesty or lack thereof.
Lately, it looks like you are overmedicated – your eyes look empty and it appears you now question your own self-worth because of all the deception you have employed to win this election.
What is most disappointing is how you are setting such a poor example to your five sons. You are corrupting them in a way that no father should. Maybe they have already learned the near term value of lying from you, who knows.
It is obvious that you have no respect for OUR President – I am not sure if that is because he is black or because he is a Democrat – my guess, based on the history of the Mormon Church, is that you frequently disrespect our president because he is of color. Your church has a history of speaking ill of blacks and Hispanics and American Indians – but blacks received the most insulting words in your scripture – the same scripture you followed all your life and never took exception.
This scripture was recently “cleansed” in the dark of the night to remove most negative and insulting comments – conveniently when you were running for president for the first time in 2008.
If you do not want to show any deference or respect for President Obama, maybe you could show respect to another President, President Joseph F. Smith, 6th President of the Mormon Church, who counseled, “Let every man’s life be so that his character will bear the closest inspection, and that it may be seen as an open book, so that he will have nothing to shrink from or be ashamed of” (Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed. , 252).
Again, Mr. Romney, President Joseph Smith counseled that your life should be seen as an open book – this goes especially for your taxes because even the omission of not sharing your taxes with the same Americans you are asking for their votes leaves one to believe you are hiding something – something significant and possibly sinister.
So, why do I feel you should be obligated to release your taxes? Simple, because you are the one who wants to rewrite the tax code. You, personally, with your team of tax accountants and attorneys have worked the system to pay the minimum in taxes and it appears that you might have erroneously or even intentionally misstated income as capital gains to pay even less tax.
As you know, Mr. Romney, the IRS is evaluating about a dozen large firms, including your own Bain Capital, to determine if honest mistakes or fraud has taken place – either way, if income has been erroneously reported as capital gains to save 20 percent in taxes, you will be required to dig into your offshore accounts to pay back the IRS.
I have been speaking of your misstatements and half-truths and your lying by omission in numerous blogs but your recent comments regarding Jeep and Chrysler put me over the top.
I now find you to be the most unethical person who has ever run for president of the United States and considering you are a Bishop in your church, I find that to be even more disgusting.
I resent anyone in a position of authority, such as a scout leader, little league coach, policeman, or religious leader, taking advantage of someone else – whether the person being taken advantage of is a child, the elderly, a whole group such as blacks or even a voting block such as women, and I have always supported those individuals being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Your situation is a little unique, you have not molested a child, nor have you robbed anyone at gunpoint, but what you are doing is equally as bad.
Your own church, based on scripture and words of President Smith, considers you a “slave of the devil” because your church says that Satan is a liar and “Those who choose to cheat and lie and deceive and misrepresent become his slaves”
I do not trust you, Mitt Romney, and I believe that your predisposition to lying – or at least your frequent half-truths and misstatements mark you as unqualified to serve as President of the United States.
In case you want to try to say that you never said “Jeep is considering moving all production to China”, here is the video to prove how you lied.
Also, here is a quote made by Mitt Romney, that he might deny, but videos and recordings do not lie – only Mitt does.
Here’s what Romney said last Thursday in Ohio: “I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China. I will fight for every good job in America; I’m going to fight to make sure trade is fair.”
The source of the above quote is: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/4-pinocchios-for-mitt-romneys-misleading-ad-on-chrysler-and-china/2012/10/29/2a153a04-21d7-11e2-ac85-e669876c6a24_blog.html
The latest game for the Romney campaign, including Romney himself is for him to make a misstatement, a half-truth, or an outright lie in front of a large group, such as in a debate or a major speech and then for his campaign (not him, but his designated liar) to rework the lie to make it partially correct.
Upper Middle Income Americans and above know that Romney is lying and they are going along with it because they believe they will do better financially under a Romney Administration.
That, actually, is only half-true. (wow, am I picking up Romney’s bad habit?) Just joking.
What I meant by that statement is that the middle income Americans supporting Romney will not do better under a Romney administration because he only cares for those in the, let’s say, top 15 – 20 percent. Upper Middle and Middle Americans in the top 21 – 50 percent are being used by the Romney campaign strictly for votes. In reality, Romney does not give a hell about Middle Income Americans.
Middle Americans will lose some of their tax deductions to help insure that the upper crust will get their new tax cuts and that is okay with me because any Middle American naïve enough to vote for Romney deserves to be taken to the cleaners. The same holds true for lower income Americans – if they are stupid enough to trust the lying Romney, again, I will have no sympathy for them when their food stamps and their Medicaid and their welfare and other support is reduced or eliminated.
Personally, I feel there should be a sequel to the movie, “Despicable Me” starring Steve Carell, but the new “Despicable Me III” should be starring Mitt Romney. Hopefully, Mitt will not be elected to office and will have a lot of time to star in the sequel.
Lastly, Mitt, in your defense, maybe you were a little confused about Jeep being the company that is moving all production to China.
I jest, but maybe you confused Jeep with Sensata, the Bain Capital company that recently made record profits in Illinois – but Bain wanted to make even more money off of Sensata, so they sold Sensata and is moving all the equipment and production capabilities to China, while terminating all the Illinois employees just in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year.
Hey, Mitt “Ebenezer Scrooge” Romney – are you going to give every Sensata employee Christmas stockings loaded with lumps of coal for going away presents?
Maybe you could invite all of them to one of the nearest Romney mansions for a Christmas Dinner. Pick a close one because most of the Sensata ex-employees will not have enough money to put gasoline in their cars to drive to your California mansion.
Can anyone tell I am angry? If not, let me assure everyone that I am angry – damn angry – angry that Mitt Romney is trying to dupe us into believing that he wants all of us to pursue the American Dream, when in fact he is really dooming all of us to the “American Nightmare.”
Thanks, Mitt and good riddance, hopefully in another week.
